Self care methods using your moon sign
I wish self care was more valued in our society. It seems that everywhere you look, there are people that are sad, insecure and just plain angry. There are plenty of people that know how to care for themselves and maintain a level of happiness that is above the norm, but do they use self care or is it something else?
Maybe if self care wasn’t called self care, it wouldn’t be undervalued. Maybe if it was called happiness maintenance, or confidence conservation, it would be more valued. What do you think?
what self care is and what it isn’t
Self care IS a way to nourish and replenish yourself in ways that work for you and your body so that you can continue to thrive in this world. Everything is speeding up as we are moving towards vertical time AND there is more negative energy flitting about that we have to deal with on a daily basis. Self care helps you clear the shit and replenish lost energies.
Self care is NOT just lazing about and sleeping a lot.
It’s unfortunate that the media has portrayed self care as massages, bubble baths and vacations to maintain a level of sanity. What I propose is that we all learn our moon signs to understand how we need to be nurtured and nurture others so that we can do the right self care and stop perpetuating stereotypes that don’t work for everybody.
Self care methods using your moon sign, instead of suggestions from the collective might be a better option for you if you tried “self care” and it didn’t work for you.
Determining how you like to be nurtured requires knowing your moon sign and then some introspection on whether you resonate with the derived meaning of your particular moon sign or not.
It’s easy to calculate your moon sign. You can use any astrology app, or go to astro.com to pull your free birth chart. You will need your exact time of birth, location and date with year. Because the moon moves so quickly through the signs, it’s important to know your exact birth time.
When you discover your moon sign, you have the ability to understand your inner child better and if some reparenting needs to occur with them. Sometimes our inner children (depicted by our moon) weren’t cared for the way we needed, even if we had great parents.
If they didn’t understand how to make you feel nurtured and secure, they may have missed the mark in giving you a solid foundation to leap from. This shows up in lack of confidence, inability to move forward in tough times, self sabotage, compromising your spirit for security in disempowered ways, etc.
These expressions of a disempowered inner child correlate to the 5 trauma responses—fight, flight, freeze, flop or fawn.
If we learn how to take care of our inner child and recognize when she is feeling unsafe, whether it is perceived or real, we can amplify our confidence and empower ourselves to do the difficult things required to move forward in life and business.
Types of Self Care based on your Moon Sign
Once we understand our moon sign, we can then take the steps towards empowering her. Each sign has an elemental relationship. The elements are Fire, Earth, Water and Air. Using the expressions of the elements can help us determine the kinds of activities that our little moon sign needs to feel safe and nurtured.
I’ve been accused of being “selfish” by others because I am so adamant about my self care. Not my inner family unit of course. They have to live with me, so they understand how important it is for mom to take care of herself before she can help others.
It’s like that old saying, “put your oxygen mask on before you help another.” For all of us healers and coaches, self care is paramount to success and helping others achieve similar successes.
Let’s dive into the elements to understand how to sustain oneself through elemental self care.
Fire Element
For the fire element in general, fuel is needed to sustain or the fire will burn out. This goes for the entire person, as well as the inner psychological needs. Stoking the fire with fuel like foods, activities and rest will be helpful in maintaining a strong body and healthy mind.
Water Element
For the water element people, using water to nourish and heal the body to replenish energies and clear away negative energies is paramount. Drinking lots of water or teas in addition to, yep, you guessed it—baths, showers or hot springs, can alleviate the undue stresses that these people take on as emotions and energies are absorbed and dissolved through their energetic space.
Earth Element
For our earth element friends, it’s best to connect directly with the Earth, though it’s not always possible in Winter. Literally playing with dirt or plants can ease some stresses and rejuvenate the self. Also, ingesting fresh greens and fruits of the earth can help keep the body nourished.
Air Element
This is the element that is the most difficult to understand and explain. Air needs to move, and it needs the space to do so. Getting out of the house or office and just breathing in the fresh air can do wonders for the air element people. Also, using music and talking can help. Find a friend to talk shit out with, or get a therapist to let off some of the built up steam inside.
I am a water moon, so I do best with water element self care. But, I do realize that there are other parts of the self that need to be nourished at times. Since I am a Sagittarius rising, I also need to pay attention to the fire element within. So getting up and moving around is also a good idea for me. I tend to drift towards yin yoga as I spent my youth overworking my body to the point of exhaustion and am hesitant to do so again.
